Foreboding

Year: 2024

City: Kirkland

Country: USA

Orientation: Landscape

Foreboding was captured on Lake Washington near Seattle. Taken in the early morning hours, the image explores the quieter, more restrained side of sunrise, one that relies on atmosphere and texture rather than brightness or spectacle.

On this particular morning, the sky settled into deep purples and muted gray tones, spreading evenly across the horizon. Rather than dramatic color shifts, the interest lies in the density and movement of the cloud cover and its softened reflection on the water below. The lake mirrors the sky almost seamlessly, creating a sense of weight and stillness that feels both calm and unsettled.

Within the broader morning series, Foreboding offers a counterpoint to more luminous sunrises. It reflects the reality that not every morning arrives with clarity or warmth and that there is a quiet beauty in these subdued, contemplative moments before the day fully takes shape.
