Guardians was photographed inside Basilique du Sacre-Coeur de Montmartre during my first trip to Paris in 2022 and remains one of my earlier compositions from that visit. The interior of this church immediately stood apart from others I have encountered, particularly in its exposed brickwork and the way stained glass is integrated throughout the space, allowing light to move freely and deliberately within the sanctuary.
At the center of the structure is a domed ceiling, punctuated by windows that draw light downward. Encircling this dome are four carved angels, built directly into the architecture itself. Their placement feels intentional and watchful, as though they stand guard over the space below while marking an ascent upward—perhaps toward the heavens, depending on one’s interpretation. It was this quiet sense of protection and presence that inspired the title Guardians.
Together, the angels and the surrounding structure create a sanctuary that feels both grounded and elevated. The space carries a distinct character, striking in its restraint and reverence and remains a place well worth experiencing firsthand.

Please allow 3 to 4 weeks for delivery after payment is received. We take great care in the packaging and shipping of your fine art print. The customer pays for all shipping costs. All sales are final; Roman Russo does not accept refunds, returns, or exchanges. We are unable to make changes or cancellations to an order more than 24 hours after it is placed.
If your artwork arrives with any damage, please reach out to us as soon as possible.
