The Architecture of Presentation: Our Museum-Grade Framing Standards
At Roman Russo Studio, we believe that fine art deserves exceptional presentation and protection. A photograph is not truly finished until it is housed in a structure that respects and elevates its narrative.
We view the frame and mounting as an integral extension of the artwork itself. To achieve this, we partner with a premier local framing studio that handcrafts our frames using only the highest quality, conservation-grade materials.
Whether you are acquiring an intimate piece for a private study or a large statement work for a commercial lobby, here is how we ensure your investment is protected and beautifully presented for a lifetime.
1. The Foundation: Premium Wood Moulding
A frame must provide structural integrity without distracting from the image. We utilize strictly premium wood moulding to ensure durability and a refined aesthetic.
While every Limited Edition features a specific frame profile carefully curated by the artist to accentuate the mood of the work, we understand that art must also live in harmony with your interior architecture. We offer a variety of alternative frame colors within our standard collection to seamlessly integrate with your specific design scheme.
2. Tailored Glazing: Glass vs. Acrylic
The clear barrier protecting your artwork is known as glazing, and we tailor our approach based entirely on the physics of the artwork's size.
-
Small & Medium Works: We utilize Conservation Clear UV Glass. This provides a traditional, substantial feel and exceptional scratch resistance for pieces viewed at an intimate distance.
-
Large-Scale Statement Pieces: For works spanning 40 to 80 inches and beyond, weight and safety become paramount. For these sizes, we employ Premium UV-Protective Acrylic. This material is shatter-resistant and significantly lighter than glass, ensuring your large artwork is safe to ship and secure on your wall.
Both options provide premium UV protection, ensuring the archival pigment inks remain vibrant and immune to sun fading.
3. Archival Matting & Non-Destructive Mounting
The matting does more than provide a visual border; it creates a vital air gap between the paper and the glazing.
We strictly adhere to conservation standards, using only acid-free, museum-grade mats. Crucially, we utilize non-destructive photo corner mounting. This means the artwork is never permanently glued or taped to a backing board, allowing the paper to naturally expand and contract with environmental changes without rippling or sustaining chemical damage.
To achieve optimal visual balance, we scale our matting to the size of the piece:
-
Most Limited Edition Sizes: Feature a luxurious, thick 8-ply white mat with a precise 2 3/4" margin to create depth and focus.
-
Extra Large Sizes (this applies to 40x80", 50x50"): Utilize a sleek 4-ply white mat with an extended 3 1/4" margin, providing the necessary breathing room for massive architectural or landscape subjects.
4. Customization & The Trade
While each piece comes with an artist-recommended frame, your space is unique.
In addition to our standard alternative colors (black, white, light oak, and walnut), we offer a Premium Collection of finishes—including hand-finished gold and silver—available for an additional fee.
For Interior Designers and Art Consultants: If you are a trade professional requiring a custom print size or a highly specific frame profile for a commercial project, please reach out. We are fully equipped to collaborate on custom fabrication to meet your project's exact specifications.
5. Ready to Hang
